Worm Watch--8th grade Community Science project

In fall, 8th grade students participate in a community science project in collaboration with the Wisconsin DNR. As part of their study food webs, students identified different species of invasive worms in our school woods near GMS and reported findings to the WI DNR as part of a larger program here in the Great Lakes region. Bye, Bye, Buckthorn--6th grade Service-Learning project

In the fall of 2016, 6th grade students participated in a service-learning project in collaboration with the Greendale Department of Public Works. As part of their study of invasive species in science class, students identified buckthorn in a section of our school woods near GMS and then helped to clear it out during an intense work day. Our efforts were featured on MySouthNOW--check it out--there's even a video! After seeing the cleared area, students began to plan how it could be used for an outdoor learning space.

Every year, 6th graders have been involved in continuing this project, helping to keep this invasive species out of our forest.
