Fantasy with a twist

Fantastic fantasy - 2022

This year's creative writing project carried out with my students from 11d took quite a bit of the second term and involved both a theoretical part about the process of writing and the elements and characteristics of good short stories, as well as a group practical project for everyone to apply what they have learned in stories of their own.

This time the groups had to choose a character from Bulgarian folklore, which in turn led them to the beginning of a fantasy story they had to continue and complete. The writing process involved two-three rewrites until the groups arrived at a final version, which they then illustrated in a visual, designed an activity for presenting it in front of the class, as well as a poster to promote their story with. They also included feedback questions to check their readers' understanding and attitude to the story.

After the presentations in class they also had to analyse the stories in terms of theme, plot, conflict, narrative viewpoint and narrator's reliability. The final task was to fill in a Google form in order to evaluate their peers' and their own work.

You can find the project guidelines and the students' project work in the Padlet below. Enjoy!
