Gratitude posters & garlands in the making
Some tasks to learn about the history of Thanksgiving and revise vocabulary connected its its celebration
We started with a simple idea - to think about unusual things to be thankful for or extraordinary reasons to be grateful for them. The greater the contrast, the better for the images. I made my 10-line poem to give my 12th-gaders an example. They worked in pairs or groups of three to write their own and then present them to the class.
These are some of the poems the students from 12a & 12b created. We hope they make you appreciate the world around more! Think what you are grateful for? Can you add your 10-line poem to the wall? Rhyming couplets, rhythmical patterns, blank verse, anything goes, as long as it expresses your gratitude for the wonders of life!
We are grateful to 👐Gratitude and Kindness Jars @TeachersUsingTech for the great template, which we used in our own way. The students from 11d spent a couple of days to each fill their own gratitude jar with all the things they felt grateful for, whereas with 12a & 12b we spent 20 minutes in class to create our A-Z jars of gratitude, adding things, people and reasons for being grateful, starting with each letter of the alphabet. Use the jars and ideas creatively to multiply gratitude and kindness!
The students from 11d worked in groups to present what they are grateful for and develop a way to express our gratitude for what we have in our lives. You can find their ideas below and participate in the activities they created for making us stop and think about all the big and small things that make life worthwhile.
