Celebrating language
European Day of Languages
2023
EUROPEAN WEEK OF LANGUAGES
25 -29 September 2023
United in diversity, we celebrated the European Day of Languages with our students in all the languages taught at school - French, Spanish, Italian & English. There were quizzes & interactive presentations, treasure hunts & games created by both teachers & students. Some were new, some created last year, but all presented & played successfully in language classes from all years.
What is more, three 12th classes (12a, 12e & 12zh) with their language teachers took part in an integrated language lesson which tested their team work and reading skills by scanning French, Spanish & Italian posters to answer questions in English about the languages of the world.
And that's not all - 11g & 12e & 12zh have started work on short-term projects related to idiomatic expressions in Spanish, Italian & English & the words they find most beautiful in the languages they study.
Check out our Celebrating language diversity Padlet regularly for this year's updates.Â

2022
EUROPEAN WEEK OF LANGUAGES
26 -30 September 2022
Why should we study foreign languages? Our year 9 students competed to provide the most reasons in their English classes. The winners were 9g with 101 different reasons, followed closely by 9d & 9zh. Teamwork and fun were the keys to success!
In the meantime, year 10 students took and active part in the school “Guess the word” rally. They also had the task to create interactive posters about different European languages and countries, using apps like Canva & Google slides.
The importance of language diversity was one of the main points of discussion in year 11 classes. They also created a shared Google Slides presentation (11a & 11b) with famous people’s quotes about the value of language learning in the languages they study. Apart from playing different games provided by their teachers in class, some students from 11v presented their own “Guess the country” game in front of their classmates.
Year 12 focused on the future of language development in their class debates and essays. English language varieties were presented by different teams in 12a & 12b, while 12d started their group projects on the importance of idioms for intercultural communication.
All in all, all our students had a chance to make a useful contribution to the celebration of language diversity and express their opinions in the various languages they speak.
