Though not necessarily part of the AP curriculum for AP Euro, the Late Middle Ages are helpful to know in order to understand the Renaissance. 1453 is a turning point for the Western world because it marks a shift from one way of thinking, working, and living, to a different way of doing all of that. We can't know what they shifted to without knowing what they shifted from.
