Satire Articles Defined

Here's what you'll find in this section of The Scroll!

WHAT CAN I FIND IN THE "SATIRE" SECTION OF THE SCROLL?

What is satire? What is the definition?

Satire is a form of writing that is meant to make fun of something the author feels strongly about or depict a topic in an overdramatic way for comedic purposes. The goal of satire is to be humorous towards people who agree or disagree with the author. Similarly, political cartoons are another form of satire readers may be familiar with.

Why is satire important? What is its significance to journalism?

Satire is another way for authors to convey their opinion in a way that makes people laugh. Much like opinion articles, they are based in fact, but may also include some made-up information for the sake of humor. It is also meant to more or less persuade readers, because the idea is for the person or group that the article makes fun of to laugh along with the writer.
