In this article, Izzy talks about the summer feels and activities that help achieve summer happiness.
As the school year ends and summer approaches, there are many activities for people to do with friends or family, such as pool parties, camping, star gazing, and tanning. Most teens are excited to be into summer-- not only because of the activities, but also because of school being done and not having to worry about grades, homework, and tests. A downside to summer is not being around a lot of people; at school, students are constantly around people. For some, that is a big relief; for others who thrive on social interaction, it might be a struggle for that to end over summer. While most people will be with friends or family over the summer, it is a different feeling than being at school with so many peers.
The warmer the weather, the happier some people get because they can really start their activities such as tanning, rafting or camping. Sunny, warm weather can do a lot for people's attitudes and happiness. Staying up late with friends, fireworks, swimming, sleeping in, summer camps and traveling with friends-- all of those activities and more approach when summer begins. Summer is about having a long break from school to be able to have fun and rest and to do activities that are not possible during the fall and spring when in school. Sunny weather makes people happy because of the sun. Brigham Research Institute says, “ Sunlight serves as the strongest cue to regulate circadian rhythms, and serotonin.” Sunlight has many benefits for people, though it can also cause sunburn and pain.
During fall and winter, people work hard at school but, during summer, it is important to get a mental break and be able to catch a breath of fresh air without homework or a deadline. If people do not get mental breaks to collect themselves before another nine- month school year, then they may not be successful. Having a break and being able to miss school is important for students' mental health and will make going back a lot more enjoyable. Managed Methods states, “The summer break offers a respite from various stressors, including academic pressures, the daily grind of classroom activities, extracurricular demands, and certain social pressures. These elements often contribute to a stressful school climate, which can exacerbate stress and anxiety among students.” Having this long-awaited break is beneficial to many people.
The more summer gets closer the happiness flows in and the activities get rolling and the fun starts flowing. Many focus hard on school and deserve a break. Having the months of summer help more than people think. Take the summer before the new school year to refresh and get your mental health back to great. Summer is the best season of all.
