The Grants Pass Cavemen varsity boys' basketball team is nearly halfway through their season and has begun to hit their stride. As of right now, the Cavemen sit at 8-6 and are ranked 33rd in the state. The Cavemen are on a three-game winning streak since the start of league play, beating the North Medford Black Tornadoes and the Willamette Wolverines. The Cavemen take on the South Medford Panthers for their next game at home.

At the start of the season, the Cavemen were not looking too hot. Even with all of the talent on their roster, they still struggled to come away with wins, losing three of their first five games. The Cavemen were continuously playing good basketball and just could not seem to win the games efficiently. When asked how he felt about the games, an anonymous Caveman basketball fan said, “They’re a great team. Once they figure out how to get out in front and hold the lead until the final buzzer, they will be a force to be reckoned with.”

Shortly after their rocky start, the Cavemen most certainly hit their stride at the start of league play, starting undefeated. Their most notable win came over the North Medford Black Tornado, one of the Caveman's biggest rivals. The Cavemen came out with a 20 point win, slaughtering the Black Tornadoes. The final score came out to be 43-63. The Cavemen starting league play at home with a blowout win is huge for team morale. The very next game against Willamette the Cavemen had another huge win: 57-31.

For their next game as of the writing of this article, the Cavemen will take on the South Medford Panthers at home in Grants Pass. Tues., Jan.16. The Panthers are also the Caveman's long-time rivals. The game will take place in Grants Pass, where the Cavemen are looking to stay undefeated in league play and claim another win over a Medford team. When asked about the upcoming game, Atianna Vainuku-Johnson said, "I'm excited to see the outcome of this game. They are fairly matched, and it should be a very good game."
