Hello! Meet Georgia O'Keeffe, a great American painter. Below are some pictures of her.
Now let me introduce you to some of her paintings. She is known for painting LARGE flowers, Landscapes of New Mexico, and New York Skyscrapers. For today we will focus on her paintings of flowers.
What do you notice when you look at her flowers?
How do her paintings make you feel?
What do you like or dislike about her paintings?
"Born in 1887, Georgia O'Keeffe was an American artist who painted nature in a way that showed how it made her feel. She is best known for her paintings of flowers and desert landscapes.
She played an important part in the development of modern art in America, becoming the first female painter to gain respect in New York's art world in the 1920s. Her unique and new way of painting nature, simplifying its shapes and forms meant that she was called a pioneer."

Did you notice as O'Keeffe painted that sometimes she would let the flower petals go off the page. You can try this too.
Now for the fun part we are going to make our own flower art inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe.
When O'Keeffe painted she painted by observation. This means she looked at what she was painting while she painted it. This way her painting would look more true to life. Today you will be drawing a Poppy by observation.
To the right are two photos Poppy's you can draw.
Draw your flower really BIG. We want our flowers to cover the whole paper and even have some of our petals go off the page.
As you draw look at the poppy. Try your best to draw the inside of the poppy and the way the petals look.
Look at how the petals might over lap and draw that detail.
Below is a video of me drawing a poppy that you can watch and learn how to draw your own Poppy.
After your finished drawing add some color!
