Driver Education
Students must be at least 15 years old and have a learner's permit on the first day of class.
Length: Semester Available for: 10-12 grades Fees: $140
*Learner’s Permit should be obtained at age 15, fees paid, or fee waiver application submitted BEFORE class begins.
The applicant must:
Pass a 50 question closed book knowledge test
Pay a $15.00 learner permit fee
Complete an application ONLINE at and schedule an appointment to take the written exam
Pass all medical and vision screenings
Provide 2 forms of identification, one form must be from the Primary Identification list, and provide the Social Security card or ITIN
Provide proof of Utah residency
If under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign the application in the presence of a Driver License Division employee or a Notary Public. If no parent or legal guardian is available, then a responsible adult may sign for the applicant.
Pass the Written Exam
Have a learners permit for 6 months
Pass the class with less than 5 absences per term excused or unexcused
Pass the Driving Exam
Complete 40 hours of driving (6 in class and 34 with parents of which 10 must be completed at night)
Be 16 years old
