Latinos in Action (LIA) students serve their community and celebrate Latino cultures. The course takes place during the school day, with some additional service requirements taking place after school. LIA students use their talents to serve others, improve the image of Latinos in the community, and prepare for college. Students travel to elementary schools and work with teachers to help younger children learn. To enroll (and remain) in this course, students must (a) complete an application and receive a letter of acceptance; (b) maintain a 2.0 GPA all year and have no attendance problems; and (c) commit to participate actively in LIA activities and service projects. Bilingualism is a benefit for students enrolled in this course, but it is not a requirement.
