Ms. McColgan grew up in Greenfield. This year will be her 4th year teaching fifth grade at the middle school, but she has worked in the Greenfield Public Schools for the last 9 years. Before starting to teach, she worked at Newton Elementary School as the building monitor. Her favorite subjects are math and science, but she really loves reading, especially on rainy days. Her favorite genre is science fiction. She also loves hiking and being outside. In her spare time she trains to compete in strongman competitions. She currently holds the title of strongest woman in Massachusetts and New York. She loves pizza. Any extra down time is spent with her cat, Larry or her dog, Dice.
What do I love about teaching?
One thing I love about teaching is watching students discover something new or a new way to look at something. I have had a lot of really great teachers in my life and the most memorable ones always were the ones who let me explore in order to learn, so that's how I try to look at learning.
What is your favorite memory from last year?
My favorite part of last year was getting to know my students. I love having breakfast together in the morning because we were able to really learn about each other. Also I love how much they loved Larry!
I also really loved doing science projects! Last year my students created the most amazing biomes and I was so proud of them! It was researched in class, but they made the project at home, so it was really amazing to see all the unique projects they came up with!
