Classroom Routines

In order for this year to run smoothly, we need to work together as a team. Teams show support for one another, are respectful, and take responsibility for their actions. Team members do not put other members down. Teams show team spirit. They work together for success.

Our Golden Rule

In Grade 7, and in life, the golden rule is to show kindness and respect for every person, their property, and their learning. You do not need to agree with everyone...but you must treat them with respect.

Entry and Exit

You will report to your class line before school and accompany your teacher to your classroom. Maps will be reviewed with you on the first day. You will be dismissed at 3:30 P.M. with the bell.

In the morning, you need to enter the classroom respectfully, move your name magnet on the chalkboard to "Present" and be seated and ready to learn. You are expected to stand in a straight line and be quiet when leaving or entering the classroom. You do not enter a room unless you are invited by a staff member.

Washroom/Handwashing

You need to use the washroom at nutrition breaks whenever possible. If you need to use the washroom during instructional time, please use our magnet system to sign yourself out.

You should wash your hands or sanitize before and after using the washroom, and before and after eating.

Drinks

You need to keep a labelled reusable water bottle at your desk and fill it up during scheduled times at the water bottle filling station. Water bottles need to be brought home daily for cleaning and need to be returned the next day.

*No juice at your desk please unless it is during a nutrition break, and please no pop, coffee or energy drinks at school*

Physical Education/Outdoor Education

It is expected that you have running shoes to safely participate in Phys. Ed. and Outdoor Phys. Ed. activities. Please make sure to dress appropriately to be outside in all weather conditions. You may also want to bring deodorant to school. Please do not bring any perfume sprays.

Homework

Important dates pertaining to upcoming projects and assignments are located in our Google Classroom and Google Calendar.

It is suggested that students set aside 70 minutes in the evening for homework. Homework may include at-home practice (that will not be graded but will ensure success on in-class assessments), review of the day's work, or preparing for upcoming activities or assessments. Examples might include re-writing your notes to improve retention, making review cards, practising concepts on one of the links provided on this website, etc. You will not be assessed on work completed fully at home and will not see projects or extra "busy" worksheets coming home. On occasion, you may have unfinished classwork coming home to be completed, which must be completed independently.

You should spend 30+ minutes reading every evening and complete your Reading Response, which will be due each Monday.

Contributing to Class Discussion

If you have something to ask in class, or would like to add to a discussion, you should raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged by the discussion leader.

Reading

You need a book to read at school. In addition to our wonderful RRPS library, there is a selection of books that I have collected during my years of teaching to build you a classroom library (which means you will always have a book to read). If you have a book you would like to bring from home, you are encouraged to do so.

As mentioned in the "Homework" section, it is expected that you read at least 30+ minutes each night and fill out your Reading Response each week.  Reading is a life skill that will benefit you long after you leave Royal Roads (if you do not enjoy reading...it just means that you have not found the right book yet. If you are unsure how to select a book or would like a list of recommended books, I would be happy to help you!)
