Grade 10 Art encourages students to develop their skills in producing and presenting art by introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic exploration and experimentation. Throughout this course, students will apply various design elements and principles as they expand their creative process. They will also learn to critically reflect on and interpret art within personal, contemporary, and historical contexts.
Grade 10 students build on and extend the foundational skills learned in grade nine art. Students explore a variety of new media such as coloured metallic pencils, acrylic paint, pastel, and relief printmaking. Students learn how to create optical illusions, distort reality, create realistic portraits and explore the historical aspects of portraiture through several time periods. Students review design concepts and study and study the Middle Ages and Art Nouveau to inspire and guide the artworks they produce.

Practical exam should be a demonstration of knowledge gained throughout the semester. No new medium or skills should be introduced in the final project or reflection writing. The form of testing should be familiar to the students, a similar format to what has been done in class.
