For Tuesday's field lab at Merry Lea, we will depart from the Physical Plant at noon. As we did for our first lab session, we will begin with an orientation in the Barn. After an orientation on interpreting topographic features using several types of maps, you will be assigned your lab exercise. As part of the information you will need for this exercise, we will drive to another site at Merry Lea and spend about an hour hiking off-trail in the woods. Wear closed-toed footwear, and consider long pants, as there are areas of low-growing poison ivy. Bring your field notebook and pencil. You will use them to record observations in the field as a basis for completing some of your lab exercise sheet. In preparation for the topic, please familiarize yourself with this pre-lab reading document. You will be using this information, along with the information presented in the orientation and field hike, to complete your lab exercise during the following week.
