What evidence did you see or hear for BOTH theoretical and applied perspectives that support Friedenswald restoration initiatives? Who are/were the theoretical and applied voices in this work?
What Katzian and Jordanian views did you hear or see?
We will be departing at noon from in front of the Phys. Plant to travel to Camp Friedenswald---45 min. away in S. Michigan. After getting an orientation to the organization's sustainability efforts by its staff, they will lead us on a tour/discussion of the various land restoration/mgt. activities they have been engaged in for the past nine years. Hiking will be on trails. Bring water, sun protection, and your field notebooks and pencils.
By the time we start this lab, you should have submitted your written reflection about last week's lab experience via Moodle.

Core Tenets
Place
We root our work and play in the St. Joseph River watershed and commit to learning about, caring for, and being shaped by the place and its inhabitants.
(Examples: Commit at least 500 work hours per year to land stewardship; Planted 9000 trees in former soy fields)
Formation
We nurture and empower people for hopeful living through worship, play, rest, and skill-building.
(Example: Use creation-based summer camp curriculum)
Justice
We value diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and will examine the power structures that contribute to climate change, discrimination, oppression, marginalization, and other forms of injustice, responding with individual and collective action.
(Example: Joined Supportive Communities Network (SCN) and Repair Network of the DDoD Coalition)
Resilience
We creatively adapt and embrace sustainable stewardship of our built environment, financial and personnel resources, to sustain Camp Friedenswald’s purpose into the future.
(Examples: Constructed new playground with locally harvested black locust; use sustainable purchasing guidelines, prioritize energy efficiency and going electric)
