This is a short unit leading up to HTML and the language of building a website. You will aim to gain a greater insight into what makes a good website and how the structure and design of a website is important. With so much content on the internet, getting noticed is increasingly difficult - so we will take a brief look at how websites get 'out there.'
You will utilise the following skills from previous units and year groups:
Use of the Google suite of tools to research and present information about online habits of your class
Digital creativity skills from year 5 to 7
Coding skills from year 5 to 7
You will learn the following skills:
What HTML is and what it stands for
How to manipulate HTML
Challenged to write your own HTML to produce a mini webpage.
Where this will/could take you:
Careers in web design
Year 9 Computing
GCSE Computer Science
Emerging:
Understand that we all have different online habits and like different things online. I can change the text in trinket HTML with help from my teacher. I can access my expedition portfolio.
Developing A:
I have found out that we all have different online habits and like different things online. I can change the text in trinket HTML independently. I can access my expedition portfolio and update it when asked.
Developing B:
I have found out that we all have different online habits and like different things online. I can change the text in trinket HTML independently and with support I can insert an image. I can access my expedition portfolio and update it when asked and I have started to create my own webpage using google sites.
Mastery:
I have researched people's online habits and have summarised my findings. In Trinket I can change text, insert a GIF and use a colour picker to change the background (hexadecimal code). I know what a tag I have started to create my own webpage using google sites which obeys the rule of 3. I know what HTML stands for.
Greater Depth:
Mastery plus - I have embedded a video into my trinket, changed the font using CSS font codes and have resized any embedded media. I have created a visually appealing website.
Week 1
Understand what makes a website appealing - what is clicking through?
The rule of 3 - what is it and why is it important?
What are our online habits?
Week 2:
Review last weeks work
Understand what HTML means
Understand that it is made up of a series of 'tags'
Introduce Trinket.io
Week 3:
Insert media successfully
Change the background colour (hexadecimal code) and change the CSS font
Attempt to insert a YouTube video
Resize media
Week 4/5:
Create your own website using Google sites that demonstrates design skills (balance of elements)
Demonstrate that it obeys the rule of 3.
Last lesson we had a very brief look at CSS. This week you will spend a bit more time tweaking CSS and seeing how it enhances the design of a website! Go back to last week if you need to and spend some more time on CSS - Then click on the HTML graphic on the left, to find out more about how the web can be searched.
