Online safety is a vital part not just of the computing curriculum but also is a large part of pastoral time and PSHE lessons. Throughout their 4 years at GCMS pupils will build on their knowledge from first schools to develop their understanding of the online world they are firmly embedded in and how to use it safely and wisely.
You will utilise the following skills from previous units and year groups:
Online safety lessons from first school (The ability to connect with others safely and respectfully and to understand the advantages as well as the risks of the internet).
Online safety covered in PSHE and previous computing units (Getting to know Google)
Coding skills using scratch from the previous unit
Communication skills
Resilience
You will learn the following skills:
Use scratch to develop and refine an animation to deliver a message relating to being safe online.
That the internet is a fantastic place to learn and have fun, but that it does possess dangers and pitfalls
How to ensure you are safe online and how to report or deal with cyberbullying (eg: using Tootoot) - see success criteria.
Where this will/could take you:
By the end of year 5 ALL pupils will understand how to be a responsible digital citizen. It will lead to strengthening their understanding in future units (leads to the systems and networks unit) and year groups. They will also:

Emerging: Respond with their own opinions to Project Evolve assessment
Developing A/B: In any media form (eg: a Google Slide), demonstrate understanding of the key bullet points above
