Some instances warrant an office to send a patient to an office outside their PGID or an outside specialist for treatment. The process is very similar to internal referrals, with the caveat of adding an external source. We will outline the process in this document.
When your office uses the external referral process, adding any of your primary referral sources will be essential. This process will add the organizations you most frequently use and allow their teams to set up an eReferral portal where you can securely share PHI. You will not need to communicate through your office's general email, as it all happens within the Denticon platform.
Click into Setup, then Referrals, then Referrals.
Search for your referring source in the Search Text box. If they do not show up there, you can create them.
Click the 'Add Referral' button
In the Referred By/To field, select 'Both.'
In the Type Field, enter 'Doctor' or the preferred option indicated by the office.
Complete the name and address fields
Enter the email address where the communications should be sent
Select the provider/office Specialty
Click Next
Save
Once the record is saved, click the 'Verify Email' button.
The Provider created will be emailed with instructions on verifying their portal.
Once completed on the referred providers' end, the account will be Verified on our end, and referrals can now be sent to them.
From the Treatment Plan Screen
Select the Procedures being referred
Click the Refer To button
Select External Referral tab
Select Only Show Verified eReferrals
Select Only Show Verified eReferrals, then select the Specialty to receive results
Double-click the provider you’re referring the patient. This will launch the Referral.
In your newly launched window, the treatment that is being referred out will be present. At this point, you can attach xrays, photos, or any other document you would like the referring Doctor to see.

Handwritten referrals may be attached via the Scan in Referral Form or uploaded from your PC, or Referral Type forms may be selected by clicking the Referral Form in the drop-down box.
After everything is attached, press Send Referral.
This will launch another page, an email template for the referred Provider. You can edit or add additional details and then Send it.
Once you click send, the external Referral will automatically be generated, and the email and all attachments, including xrays, will be sent to the referred Provider's team.
Please select the icon on your toolbar to manage your external referrals, as shown below.
As the office, you sent the patient to accept or complete treatment, the status in your Referral Management tab changes.
Once they mark the patient complete, they are removed from the Referral Management tab, and their treatment plan status is updated to complete.
Please note that it will not change the Dental Chart or any other item within Denticon.
