At a traditional college, your progress toward meeting degree requirements would typically be measured by successful completion of a given number of courses in a given set of academic areas. Essentially, you would take required and elective courses developed by faculty where satisfactory completion of given courses would move you toward earning an undergraduate degree.

At Goddard, the curriculum begins with your interests and passions, and proceeds through inter- or trans-disciplinary (or both) studies rather than completion of a certain number of credits in certain disciplinary areas. For this reason, we have developed a different way of assessing your progress toward the degree:

At Goddard, you develop individual semester course curricula, with guidance from your faculty advisor and course mentor, to address degree requirements through the lens of your interests. Your Progress Review Portfolio is the place where you articulate your learning toward meeting the undergraduate degree requirements, and then submit for review by a progress review group (PRG) of 3 faculty members. The PRG will assess your progress and send you feedback to assist you in successfully meeting any requirements you have not met.

There are two points in which your progress will be reviewed (PR) during a full 8-semester course of study at Goddard. We call these Progress Reviews I and II (PR I and PR II):

Given that many students enter Goddard with transfer credits the following exceptions should be noted:

*Students who enter Goddard at level 3 will submit their portfolio at level 4. Students who enter at level 6 will submit their portfolio at level 7. In addition, students with 12 or more dangling credits are considered to be the next level higher and should submit accordingly. Example: A Level 2 with 12 dangling credits is considered a L3 for PR. A level 6 with 14 dangling credits is considered to be a level 7.

Entering the final semester (Level 8): Successful completion of the PR II process is a requirement for entering level 8. Students who do not complete a PR II by the end of Level 7 must confer with their program director to determine how to proceed.
