SOCIAL JUSTICE STATEMENT BY THE GODDARD CIRCLE OF COUNCILS

We are a diverse learning community founded in the belief that democratic education creates positive change. We are committed to social justice, to human rights, to agency and protection for all people, and to thoughtful action to save our earth.

We stand on land that has been usurped, exploited and occupied. We stand together because of the legacy of those who have come before us, who paid for our freedom, dignity, and solidarity. We are peaceful people, committed to engagement, dialogue, and diplomacy; but we are not complacent. We will not be complicit – either by silence or deed – in the face of oppression. We assert our agency in upholding inclusive pluralistic processes, and safeguarding spiritual, collective and global well-being. We will be a sanctuary for the most vulnerable, holding the light of compassion and knowledge against ignorance and mal-intent.

We are committed to equal civil rights; we are undaunted in our struggle for justice. We are not deterred from reaching toward equity and access to the material and ideological resources that are our rights as human beings and global citizens. We recognize and defend the generative and creative possibilities in all of us. We eschew the hierarchy of human value. We are changing the prevailing narrative to one of healing and transformation. We stand firmly committed to living our convictions and we shall not relent.
