FINANCIAL AID (n) money to help pay for college or school
Sounds simple, right?... but if you're not sure where to start, it can feel confusing and overwhelming. Here are some resources to help.
FAFSA
The FAFSA is a FREE application that is done during your Senior Year when you are doing your scholarship and college applications. This qualifies a student for federal pell grant money. Most universities and scholarships require that you do the FAFSA. You will need to create an FSA ID for one student and one parent before you complete your FAFSA Application.
Other Needs:
FSA ID (One Student, One Parent: for Login)
Social Security # (If you don't have one utilize El Centro De La Raza as Resource)
Valid ID#
IRS 1040 Taxes from 2022 for 2024-2025 FAFSA Application
There is an Opt Out Form for FAFSA that students circumstances qualify them to use. Every student can not do the Opt-Out form, it is based on your personal situation and there are specific reasons you would do the Opt-Out Form. See your Counselor for a conversation.
The FAFSA will open on October 1, 2025 to apply for 2026-27
If you want to start planning ahead, you can create your FSA ID, 1 for parent, 1 for student. Click below.
