- *Notes for students who are Blind or who have visual impairments
· Many of the resources below could fit into either tier. Not every resource would work for every student who is blind/who has a visual impairment. It is very important to involve the itinerant teacher when discussing math support.
· For students who have dual sensory loss – we would consider many of the same resources listed below, with a focus on tactile materials.
Some general recommendations from PRCVI
- Use real objects or manipulatives to support concrete concepts like number sense, sorting, and basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Use adapted measurement tools to measure volume or distance.
- Introduce the abacus in a systematic way to promote speed and accuracy in performing calculations.
