EAL Services
EAL (English as an Additional Language) supports students whose first language is not English. EAL teachers help develop language skills while guiding students through academic content. They provide targeted instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, using scaffolding techniques like visual aids, structured conversations, and differentiated materials. Methods include direct language instruction, content-based learning, and interactive strategies such as role-playing or cooperative learning. Digital tools, bilingual resources, and multimedia further support language acquisition. The EAL Teacher at your school can provide students with Assistive Technology or iPads for reading practice at home.
Classroom teachers can assist EAL learners by giving clear instructions, using visuals, and allowing extra processing time. Encouraging peer collaboration, activating prior knowledge, and integrating students’ first languages enhance comprehension. Our EAL teachers are happy to support you and can help develop adaptations for exams and assessments to ensure fair and meaningful evaluation.
