The OLAWS Level System
O-Orientation/L-Learning/A-Accepting/W-Working/S-Succeeding
The OLAWS Level System is an evidence-based behavioral self-management practice that creates student ownership of conduct and academic performance. Students have total control over their progression up the level system as it daily illuminates and documents individual behavioral and academic choices. Students work their way up each level with the goal of achieving Level S (Succeeding). Before moving up each level, students must meet certain academic and behavioral requirements within a specific period of time, usually two weeks. By meeting level expectations consistently, students learn to make positive changes in behaviors that have not served them in the past.Â
HOW IT WORKS
Students receive a feedback sheet daily. It is signed by the parent and returned to staff the following day. Daily feedback sheets provide concrete evidence enabling staff, students and parents to continually assess individual performance. By meeting level expectations consistently, students earn privileges while maintaining positive changes in behavior.
WEEKLY TARGET GOALS
To foster ownership of behavior, each student identifies a personal weekly target goal. Target Goals are key when helping students hone in on and address behavioral and academic progress.
