Germantown Education Foundation's 2019 Teacher of the Year
Thanks for logging on! My name is Lorrie Tingle and it is my privilege to teach at Houston High School. In 1979 I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Advertising from Memphis State University. A year later, I returned to the university where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. I am endorsed in the following areas:
Marketing
Business Math
Business English
Business Law
Salesmanship
General Science
Exceptional Children Education
After teaching Marketing for many years, I was recruited to work in alternative education in both Legacy Memphis City and Shelby County Schools. I gained a tremendous amount of experience teaching students with academic and behavioral challenges. In 2005, the opportunity to teach at HHS presented itself and I've been here ever since!
My allegiance to Houston High is well established. Our daughter Lauren started here in 1998, followed by Lana in 2005. Both were percussionists in The Houston Band. Lauren is now a writer and producer in Nashville and Lana works as a counselor at HHS.
Spending time on the lake is my favorite thing to do, and my husband Gregg and I love playing with our little grandson Jonathan.
Working with young people is incredibly rewarding. I advocate for students every day, and at the same time, I encourage them to practice personal responsibility and self-advocacy in anticipation of entering the world of college and career.
