Sustaining Partnership

(Module 7)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After working through this module, every GROW team member should be able to:

  • Explain all aspects of the current Annual Action Framework (AAF) between their chapter and partner organization to a new GlobeMed member or friend

  • Develop strategies to facilitate an AAF discussion during GROW

PRE-WORK (30 mins)

Do this on your own

GROW Team Member: Reflect on the below topic

In this module we will work on sustaining partnership. In this pre-work we will ask you to reflect on ways you as an individual and as a GROW Team jointly can bring back GROW to your chapter.

For example:

  • Will you write blogs, take vlogs, present during ghu in the fall, etc.

EXPLORE (15 mins)

Do this together

Understand the Annual Action Framework

Having developed a strong understanding of our founding story and partnership model, partnership history, and goals for your upcoming GROW experience, it is time to strategize for the Annual Action Framework. The Annual Action Framework (AAF) is designed to support your chapter & partnership to imagine new ways of working and set collective, tangible, one year goals in line with GlobeMed’s mission, vision, and values. The AAF is meant to be a living, breathing document that should be revisited throughout the year as you assess your progress and shift course when circumstances change.

Instructions for completing the AAF:

Content of this tool should be based on conversations between the partner organization contacts, chapter leaders, and chapter members. These conversations should include collective reflecting from this past year as well as visioning together for the upcoming year. There are two sections to the tool:

Collective Alignment with Leadership Practices: This section is designed to allow for a shared assessment and prompt reflection and conversation about how you work together collectively, as well as if you want to shift any of your processes or norms for the upcoming year. We recommend that:

STEP 1: The chapter member(s) and partner contact(s) participating complete the example reflection individually in advance of the group conversation.

STEP 2: As a full group, you compare examples, discuss the leadership practice reflection questions, and think about how these reflections inform your action planning.

Annual Action Planning Tool: This section is designed to guide you through reflection, goal setting, and action planning around what you hope to accomplish together this year. We recommend that:

STEP 1: The chapter member(s) who lead and support each individual chapter function take the first pass at their section, bringing in the grassroots partner as appropriate.

STEP 2: The full chapter reviews and revises all of the goals together, noting connections between different teams’ work.

STEP 3: Every chapter member has access to continually come back to view or update this document.

You can find your chapter's Partnership 101 document, along with past and present PAF/AAFs in your Chapter Folder. Use these documents as a guide throughout the rest of this module.

As you get started, begin to think about the following: What is our vision of success for this year? Who should be involved in co-creating this vision? What actions can we take to make progress towards this vision?

DISCERN (15 mins)

Facilitating an Annual Action Framework Discussion

We recommend that your Partnership Action Framework discussion be completed through a series of discussions, rather than a singular meeting. Below are guiding discussion questions, organized by GlobeMed’s Learning Pedagogy, that can be used to inspire your PAF discussion.

EXPLORE: As a partnership (grow interns + chapter leaders + grassroots organization leaders), review this past year’s Annual Action Framework, the past year’s Chapter Health Assessment Report, as well as any significant monitoring and evaluation data from shared partnership projects.

  • Which goals did you accomplish?

  • Which goals did you not accomplish?

  • Which leadership practices did you score highly in?

  • Which leadership practices revealed low scores?

  • Which leadership practices were scored lowest by your partner contact? By your chapter members? By your coach?

  • How did you bring general members into partnership this year? How did you build friendship between chapter members and members of your partner community?

  • Which projects in the PAF went successfully? Which projects in the PAF struggled?

DISCERN: Identify your strengths/areas of growth as a partnership and assess the progress of shared projects.

  • What are your biggest successes as a partnership?

  • What are your biggest areas of growth?

  • Which areas did each of you most struggle with this year?

  • What direction should the projects within the PAF take? Why?

  • In executing the PAF, are there any assumptions that chapter leaders made? Why?

  • What are your most significant learnings from this year?

ACT: Determine the direction of your partnership for the year & break it down into clear steps.

  • Based on last year’s progress, what are your goals for this year?

  • What are your expectations for communication this year? Who should be the point person from each organization?

  • What are the next steps/phases for the projects within the PAF? What does this require from each side of the partnership?

  • Based on the organization’s needs, what should the GlobeMed chapter’s fundraising goal be?

REFLECT

  • Based on the GlobeMed chapter’s fundraising success this past year, are fundraising expectations for the upcoming year achievable?

  • Are there norms we can set for resetting expectations (ex: fundraising expectations) if circumstances change? What is the impact if a fundraising goal is not met?

  • How often should we (each organization) provide each other progress updates? How often and in what amounts should funds be disbursed?

  • Do our goals for the year include and prioritize relationship building between all members of each of our communities?

  • Do our goals for the year center the history, mission, and vision of our grassroots organization?

  • Does our AAF reflect our leadership practices?

ACT (30 mins)

Do this together

As a GROW team, brainstorm how you would like to facilitate the AAF discussion during your GROW experience using the information provided in the above Explore and Discern sections.

Consider the following questions as you prepare for your AAF discussion:

  • What conversations would you like to have prior to creating the AAF?

  • Based on network connection, language familiarities, etc, does it make most sense to work on the AAF document directly or have a general discussion live and build the document through a series of emails?

  • How can you use the GlobeMed Learning Pedagogy to guide your discussion? Would you start with the “Explore” step or another? Why?

  • Are there additional documents or topics that should be reviewed and reflected on as a group before everyone sits down to build the year’s AAF?

  • Does your discussion plan align with GlobeMed's Leadership Practices?

INTERACTION

Do this together

Our goal for this section is to share back these reflections during our live programming to gain perspectives from our entire network as your team progresses through the GROW Modules.
