Our GlobeMed Partnership History

(Module 1)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After working through this module, every GROW team member should be able to:

  • Tell a new member about their partner organization, country, and community

  • Share their Chapter's partnership story, including key projects/areas of engagement, successes, and learnings

PRE-WORK (30 mins - 1 hour)

Do this on your own

GROW Coordinator: Prepare Partnership Module Materials (30 mins - 1 hour)

As the GROW Coordinator, your role is to customize this module for your GROW team to make it specific to your chapter's partnership. As you dig into the nuances of your partner organization's mission, community experience, and history of partnership relationships and collaborations, please use any and all partnership materials within your chapter's archives (e.g. Partnership 101, Partnership Action Framework (PAF), Annual Action Framework (AAF), photos, blog posts, and other partnership stories) with your GROW team. We highly encourage you to reach out to past GROW team members and your primary partner contact as you design this module.

Note: If your partnership was initiated this academic year, you may want to adapt this module to better suit your team's needs. We encourage you to do so!

Step 1: Review your past and present partnership documents. You will find your chapter's Partnership 101 document, along with past and present PAF/AAFs in your Chapter Folder. Use these documents as a guide, along with your partner's website, past partnership presentations, partnership stories (blogs/photos from past GROW teams or a letter from your partner contact could be nice!), to paint a picture of your GlobeMed partnership for your GROW team members.

Step 2: Put your partnership in context. Prepare to learn about the colonial history and current context of your partner organization’s community & country with your GROW team. Remember, people have a variety of learning styles, so consider a combination of articles, videos and/or podcasts that touch on your partner organization's context. If you can, talk to your partner contact about what they find to be most meaningful and why. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

Step 3: Prepare to engage your GROW team. Take a minute to review all of the materials you've collected in the context of this module's learning objectives (outlined above). How do you want to spend the hour with your team members? What do you need them to review in advance? The Explore, Discern, and Act sections below provide guiding questions and activities, but feel free to make it your own. And remember, this module is just the start and you do not have to make it through everything in one session! You will all continue to learn together and with your partner through GROW preparation and your GROW experience.

Step 4: Share key documents and any other "pre-work" with your GROW team. Make sure your GROW team has access to all core partnership documents, including the Partnership 101 document, this year's AAF, etc, and share any other resources that you want your team to review in advance of your team conversation! Please limit the pre-work to about 30 minutes.

GROW Team Member: Review & Reflect (30 mins)

All GROW members should individually take the time to review the materials prepared by the GROW coordinator before you come together as a team. As you prepare for the team discussion and activities, consider can you answer the questions below? What more do you want to understand to meaningfully engage with your partner on GROW? Who else do you want to talk to before this summer's GROW experience?

  • Why was your partner organization founded? What is their mission and how do they fulfill it?

  • What is the history of your partner country and community? How does this history influence the ways your partner organization operates today?

  • When was your GlobeMed partnership founded? How have your partnership goals evolved since then? What key project(s) do you collaborate on today?

  • What do you believe has been you biggest partnership success and how did it happen? What is one reflection or lesson you want to use to inform how you co-create this year's GROW experience?

  • Who is your partner GROW contact? What is their role in the organization?

TEAM BONDING (10 mins)

Do this together

GROW team dynamics are the number one factor that influence a positive (or negative) GROW experience. Start by cultivating a brave space together and taking time at every team meeting to continue to get to know each other! Here is a favorite check-in activity at HQ:

  • Start with your "Whys": Why did you choose to participate in GROW this year?

EXPLORE (15 mins)

Do this together

This section of the module is designed by the GROW Coordinator. You can use this time and space to deepen your exploration together as a team, and don't forget to keep it short and sweet. Here are a few options to consider:

  • Prepare a short Google Slides or Prezi presentation to walk through your partnership history and timeline

  • Review a short video or case study related to the colonial history of your partner country together

  • Tell a story about a member of your partner organization or community

  • Ask each GROW team member to share one or two reflections from the pre-work that made them excited to participate in GROW

DISCERN (35 minutes)

Do this together

Dig a little deeper into the discussion. You can use these questions as a starting point, allowing for additional conversation topics and focuses to occur.

  • Are there projects your partnership once engaged in that you would like to learn more about?

  • Of the projects you engage in with your partner, which are you most passionate about? Which do you know the least about?

  • Since its founding, what are your partnership’s most significant lessons learned?

  • What are your partnership's key strengths? What are your partnership’s areas of growth?

ACT (30 mins)

Do this together

This conversation was just the start! What more do you want to understand to meaningfully engage with your partner on GROW? Who else do you want to talk to before this summer's GROW experience?

  • Prepare a set of questions to bring to your partner contacts, co-presidents, past GROW team members, and/or GlobeMed HQ coaches. Work as a team to note any lingering questions you have about your partner organization and/or partnership that you want to discuss further before GROW. Who do you need to converse with the answer these questions? While there may be some specific details that you need to fill in your partnership picture, we encourage you to focus on questions that will deepen your understanding and support you to co-create this summer's GROW experience.

  • Set up a call or e-meet with your partner contact(s). Reach out to your partner contact to set up a call if one has not already been scheduled. Before you jump into "planning mode," spend some time getting to know each other and discussing partnership successes and lessons learned.

INTERACTION

Do this together

Our goal for this section is to share back these reflections during our live programming to gain perspectives from our entire network as your team progresses through the GROW Modules.

OPTIONAL CHALLENGE

This challenge is not a required part of this GROW module, but it is a lot of fun! We encourage you select a GROW team member or two to share what you learned about your GlobeMed partnership with your chapter and campus community.

Challenge

Create a form of mediaa short video, graphic, Instagram post/series, interactive tab on your website, etc.that briefly overviews the social or historical issue that your partner organization is tackling, your partner organization’s mission and history, and your partnership! Share this with your chapter's Director of Communications.
