The beginning of a new academic year means a fresh start for Global Jaya’s Student Council. As we opened recruitment for year 7 to year 11 we saw many new faces as well returning students who we loved to get to know more about during the application process. The application for the Student Council executive committee was open to year 11s during the long holidays keeping us year 12s busy interviewing and reviewing applications over the course of 3 weeks. From the 20 students that applied, 12 became part of the SC family:
Vice Secretary: Chiara
Vice Treasurer: Rawnie
Vice Head of Events: Luna
Vice Head of Publications: Alayka
Year Level Representatives
Acid
Govind
Ruby
Zahra
Anindya (Documentations)
Maira (Content Writer)
With the executive committee, we drafted our annual plan for the coming academic year, coming up with new and interesting events we know the student body will love. We also came up with strategies to strengthen the Student Council’s pressence within the Global Jaya community through our media platforms to improve communication between all parties of the GJS community. We spent around 2 weeks gathering ideas and plans to make the upcoming school year as enjoyable as possible, even in these circumstances. We hope that the GJS community is as excited as we are to share our upcoming plans for the coming school year.
The Student Council helped to organise some activities for the new students’ Induction Day. Although, we could not do our annual school-wide treasure hunt that we usually do for new students, we still enjoyed meeting and getting to know the new faces of the GJS community. In Induction Day, we introduced the Student Council to the new students through a presentation where we shared a little bit about ourselves and our role in the community.
Came the first week of school, when we opened recruitment for the MYP year levels. We were so delighted that many students were as excited as we were for them to join the family. A week of back-to-back interviews, case studies and even sometimes heated discussions, we were happy with our new MYP recruits,
Year 7: Nadindra, Nisha, Varo
Year 8: Emir
Year 9: Linette, Arfa, Kaira, Allea, Raka, Indira, Sumayya
Year 10: Putri, Indra, Alicia, Dhira, Inseo, Muthia, Faya
Welcome to the family everyone!
Although, it is unfortunate that the year 12s’ final year in the Student Council can only be enjoyed remotely from the comfort of our own homes, we cannot be more excited for the potential that the Student Council holds for the future. To Arvin, Fitra, Abel, Omarr, Chandni, Jaanvhi, Gloria, Diandra, Vala and Dindi, thank you for making the last 2 years of being in the Student Council so enjoyable and it has been such a pleasure to work with you all. As for Lisa and Bhre, I’m so excited to see what you come up with in the future, I have so much faith and trust in you both.
We look forward to working together with the new recruits, School Leadership as well as other members of the GJS community for the upcoming academic year.
