Year 2 students invited a special guest speaker, dr. Muliadi Limanjaya from RS Pondok Indah Bintaro, on Tuesday 22 September 2020. The students were very excited and actively participated during the activity. The students used their critical thinking to ask questions after watching a video about Nutrition and Balanced Eating and listening to dr. Muliadi’s information. Here are some questions from students from both classes:
Ji woo : I want to stay healthy, but I still want to eat sweet things every day. What should I do?
Alivia : How much water do I need to drink every day?
Joshua : I love ice cream, so can I eat it every day?
Damian : Which one is the most healthy; vegetable salad or cooked vegetables?
Ha Jun : Can I get cancer when I eat burnt food?
Eleanor : Do I have to eat breakfast?
Djenar : Why do people need vitamins?
Jasmine Putri Carwithen: Why is strawberry milk not healthy?
Aaliyah Shay Sitepu: Why is junk food not healthy and why do we need to eat healthy food more than junk food?
Jasmine S : Why can we not sleep after eating?
Hilman : How do we get exercise if there is a pandemic?
Students collected lots of information about a balanced lifestyle, hygiene, and healthy eating from dr. Muliadi. We also learned new vocabulary related to this unit, such as protein, grain, vitamin, dairy, fat, carbohydrate, and sugar. Students were being reflective when realizing that they need to eat more vegetables and do more exercise. We can see this from their reflections where the students used the Six Thinking Hats.
This week we also had a virtual Healthy Food Picnic during snack time. Students enjoyed eating together and sharing what they know of the food groups in their snack.
Throughout this unit, the students will create a health magazine, and each week we will be focusing on a different topic.
Week 1: Healthy Food Week
Week 2: Exercise Week
Week 3: Wellbeing Week
Week 4: Hygiene
