What an incredible week of discovery, wonder, and whole school collaboration! This week, to celebrate Science Week, the Primary School and the Secondary School teamed up to bring scientific experiences to life across our campus.
Here are some of the highlights from a week filled with curiosity and learning:
Secondary Mentors Inspiring Primary Classrooms:
Our Secondary students stepped into the shoes of our GJS teachers, visiting Primary classrooms to lead creative, hands-on science lessons. These peer-led sessions were directly connected to each year level’s current Unit of Inquiry (UOI)— from exploring forces and chemistry to diving into current events by looking into how air quality affects our respiratory system, students were able to build on their previous learning through different voices. Our Primary students were captivated by their older mentors, who did a fantastic job breaking down complex scientific concepts into engaging, interactive experiences.
The Interactive Science Demonstration Fair:
One of the week's biggest highlights was the live Secondary Science Demonstration Fair, held daily from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Secondary students set up dynamic booths featuring high-energy demonstrations and fascinating models. Primary classes moved through scheduled rotations, giving our young inquirers a front-row seat to the action.
DP Science Exhibitions & Challenges:
The learning didn't stop there—our DP students also hosted daily Science exhibitions and challenges in Plaza A, targeting secondary audiences every day from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Centered around this year's World Habitat Day theme, Adequate Housing for All, these interactive displays and practical challenges encouraged our older students to apply scientific thinking to real-world, global sustainability issues.
A huge thank you to our secondary students for their hard work and enthusiasm in making this collaboration such a resounding success. They sparked new curiosities, built strong cross-campus connections, and definitely fired up plenty of new neural pathways across the whole school!
