It has been an amazing year with much to celebrate! Being on campus - face to face - for an entire uninterrupted year, has been magnificent! It has been a pleasure to witness the sense of the GJS community rebuilding as well as observing individual students re-finding their feet after the challenges and barriers faced by many during the extended period of home based learning.
Capitalising on this sense of growth and positive momentum, I’d like to use my final Kontak article of the year to focus on looking ahead to the many exciting things that are on our horizon for the beginning of the next school year.
New family induction day
We are so happy to be welcoming many new families into our GJS community for the next academic school year. In order to support their transition, we will be providing an enhanced new family induction day on Thursday August 3rd. Working in collaboration with the student council, the parent teacher association, the teachers, the counsellors and the leadership team, we have an informative, fun-packed programme planned. If you are interested in finding out more, you may click this link to read the letter of invitation.
Orientation Day
All students will return to school on Monday 7th August. In order to support the students’ orientation to a brand new school year, we will be holding a secondary school orientation. It is our intention that, following the orientation day, students will feel invigorated, connected and excited for the year ahead.
Orientation Day Schedule.
Week Without Walls
11th - 15th September 2023 is allocated for the MYP ‘Week Without Walls’ (WWW) programme. The activities planned for this week are designed to build student confidence, resilience, skills and self-esteem by challenging students to step outside of their comfort zone. Each year level has their own programme and itinerary. Please click the links below in order to read the week without walls itinerary for each year level.

Year 8: Link to invitation letter
Year 9: Link to invitation letter
Year 10: Link to invitation letter
It is very important that you sign your child up to participate in their year level WWW programme. An important component of this week is that we will be helping students to build peer group relationships in order to further enhance the sense of community in the year group. Students who do not attend their WWW experience will miss out on important community building activities. It is important to note that there will not be lessons provided for MYP students during this week.
Please note that, in order to facilitate our planning, we would appreciate sign up prior to the summer break. We will not accept registrations after 11th August at 3pm.
There will be a parent meeting on Wednesday 9th August at 3pm for all parents of students attending the WWW experience. More details to follow.
Learning Enhancement Programme
We are very proud to be launching our brand new Learning Enhancement programme for the 2023 - 24 school year.
Designed to outline the ways in which we can support our students to pursue areas of excellence, the policy describes a multi-level approach:
Level 1
Helping students to enhance and explore an area of focus that they are interested in and are committed to so that they are equipped to participate in the international community as team members and leader.
Level 2
Helping students to enhance an area of focus that they have skill, passion and commitment in so that they are equipped to participate in the international community as team members and leaders.
Level 3
Helping students to enhance and extend an area of focus that they have consistently demonstrated skill, passion and commitment in, so that they are equipped to participate in the international community as team members and leaders.
