For our last unit of inquiry, How we Express Ourselves, Year 3 students had the opportunity to have a very special guest speaker. Ibu Tasya is the daughter of renowned artist I Nyoman Nuarta. He is also the grandfather of Year 3, Rayyan, and Year 5, Amar. Pak Nyoman has created many great art pieces all over Indonesia. His most famous piece is the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue.
Students got to hear Pak Nuarta's thoughts on his artistic process through a prerecorded video. His journey as an artist was a great example of what a true risk-taker can accomplish in life. Year 3 students were inspired by his courage as an artist.
From there, students were given the chance to express themselves by creating their own sculptures. Ibu Tasya explained how her father's sculptures would initially start with a much smaller model. Based on this model, they could then determine how they could expand it using copper and brass. Year 3 students would be using an oil-based plasticine for their chance to create a sculpture. They would use wire to create the frame and then add plasticine to the cover. The entire Year 3 group demonstrated their enthusiasm when creating their original art pieces. Ibu Tasya's presentation helped consolidate our understanding of how important it is for us to be able to express ourselves creatively. Thank you, Ibu Tasya and your associates, for a wonderful learning experience.
