🌍 Celebrating World Environment Day 2025 at GIIS East Coast
Theme: Reducing Plastic Usage
Every small step counts when it comes to protecting our planet!!
It was a proud and purposeful day at GIIS East Coast as our entire school community came together to champion a greener future through meaningful and hands-on activities.
A special highlight was the Sustainability Sharing Session by Ms. Smita Warnekar, whose powerful talk inspired our students to take small yet impactful actions toward a more eco-conscious lifestyle. Her session motivated students to make concrete pledges—simple steps that pave the way for a sustainable future. 🌿🌿
💡 Highlights from Our Green Celebration:
✨ EcoVoices 2025 – A whole-school creative competition featuring reels and short talks where students raised their voices against plastic use. We received amazing entries showcasing their creativity, awareness, and commitment to change.
No Plastic Tiffins Day: A strong school-wide statement against single-use plastic—everyone brought eco-friendly tiffins, bottles, and cutlery.
Story Time & Craft: Our youngest learners enjoyed Tara and the Talking Turtle and created heartfelt recycled ocean art.
Reflections & Discussions: Primary students explored the journey of plastic waste and shared ideas for a cleaner Earth.
Together, we didn’t just celebrate a day—we cultivated a mindset.
A mindset of action, awareness, and responsibility for the planet we call home. 🌱
In September 2024, our Global Centre for Educational Excellence team has launched a new initiative, the GSG Mock Conference of Parties.
🌍🌱 The inaugural GSG Mock COP (MCOP) 2024 was an incredible success! Over two days, from September 24-25, around 90 students and 18 teacher facilitators from five countries came together to simulate the UN Climate Change Conference, creating a powerful platform for youth climate action.
With partners like IUCN CEC, YOUNGO, WWF, and TERI providing their expertise, the event offered participants a deep dive into conservation, sustainability, and global policy. In her keynote, UN Youth Climate Champion for COP 29, Ms. Leyla Hasanova, inspired students to embrace the "G.S.G" approach: Get educated, Seek innovation, and Guide by example. 💡
A highlight of MCOP was the collaborative energy among students from different countries and schools, who worked together to tackle climate change challenges. The engaging panel discussion with climate experts and the intense negotiation sessions, focused on issues like reducing greenhouse gases and climate finance, showcased the impressive depth of knowledge and passion these young minds brought to the table.
The event wrapped up with a joint declaration and action plan – a remarkable outcome of an inspiring initiative for youth empowerment and climate leadership. 🌍✨
