The GIIS East Coast Campus Celebrated Water Week from February 5th to 9th 2024 with a lot of excitement demonstrating a strong commitment to acknowledging the significance of water. Throughout the weeklong event, students from all grade levels actively took part in a variety of activities that were organized.
This year the theme is “Ripples of Change: Nurturing Every Drop”. The primary aim is to create awareness about conserving water and appreciating our water resources,
By focusing on "Ripples of Change," it encourages students to understand the cumulative effect of small actions in creating a larger positive impact on water resources. "Nurturing Every Drop" underscores the idea that every person plays a role in water conservation. It emphasizes individual responsibility and the collective power of small, positive actions in creating meaningful change.
Classes 1 and 2 actively participated in a Storytelling session under the topic of Importance of saving water. Storytelling provides an engaging and effective way to educate young students about the importance of water, its conservation, and related environmental issues
Students from Classes 3 and 4 enthusiastically engaged in an Interactive water cycle display. They were tasked with creating a diorama that illustrates the various stages of the water cycle, and they placed notecards corresponding to each process.
Students in Classes 5 and 6 took part in a DIY Water Filtration Activity. They actively demonstrated a simple experiment by creating a makeshift water filtration system using readily available household items.
Classes 7, 8 and 9 took part in a Short video on Community Awareness Campaign (Water related). They were assigned the task of creating a short video with the primary goal of bringing attention to and addressing water-related challenges within the community.
IBDP Year 1 students actively participated in Project-based learning on sustainable solutions to water conservation. Students collaborated to propose and execute a water conservation initiative within the local community.
Students from various classes participated in the Photography Exhibition under the theme “Aqua Visions – Capturing the Essence of Water”. Students showcased their creativity through a multitude of innovative photographs that vividly captured the essence of the theme.
The students were asked to craft meaningful messages emphasizing the importance of water on blue sticky notes, and we arranged them to create a large water droplet shape using these sticky notes.
On February 9th, a special assembly was arranged and Mr. Hardik Shah was invited as the guest speaker. He delivered an insightful and valuable speech on the topic of "water sustainability."
In summary, the Water Week offered students a multifaceted learning experience, combining education, awareness-building, community engagement, and the promotion of sustainable practices. It plays a vital role in shaping environmentally conscious and responsible individuals who understand the significance of water in the broader context of global challenges.
