WALT: Develop the skills required in the game of cricket

Over the last 4 weeks, we have been lucky enough to have 2 cricket coaches from Cricket New Zealand come and teach us some techniques for the game of cricket. We learned about throwing, catching, bowling and batting. The students did great and really enjoyed all of the different cricket games that our coach taught them.

WALT: Identify how we can use a growth mindset to further our learning

We learned about 2 different mindsets: A fixed mindset and a growth mindset. When we say things like 'I can't do it' this is a fixed mindset belief. What we discussed as a class is that if you have these fixed mindset beliefs, it makes it harder to learn because you have the idea that you are not able to do it. Therefore it is important for students to develop a growth mindset and believe that they can achieve great things! Students worked together to come up with ways of thinking from a growth mindset point of view rather than from a fixed mindset! Saying things like 'I can't do it - YET! But I'll keep trying!' were simple ways we discovered to change our mindset and improve our learning.
