Each year the Bioscience Technology chapter at Gahanna Lincoln
chooses an issue or foundation to raise awareness on, this is our National Service
Project. We try our best to reach out into our communities and spread information.
With the unfortunates of COVID-19 it remains a challenge to host events,
but with each passing day we promote awareness for our cause. This
year our National Service Project is Be the Match!
Be the Match
Throughout the 2020-2021 school year Gahanna's Bioscience chapter raised funds for Be the Match. Through out the year there were many opportunities where our program was able to spread information about Be the Match and to collect donations. In total the Juniors and Seniors of the Gahanna Bioscience chapter collected $500 in which they donated to Be the Match. When the money from our program was donated, we choose to donate it in the name of Chris Bradley. Chris Bradley was a local meteorologist for 10 TV News, who died as a result of a 21 month battle with leukemia. The students in our program found that the best way we could honor Bradley's memory was to help others, who are in similar situations, get the treatment they need.
During the 2021-2022 school year, our Gahanna Bioscience program is once again spreading awareness and raising money for Be the Match. This year we are raising money in the name of a local resident who is currently going through a battle with cancer.
Be the Match is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of people who require bone marrow transplants. In the 30 years of the organization, it has managed to become the most diverse bone marrow registry in the world. Of the people that require a bone marrow transplant, 70% don't have a family member that is a suitable donor. The mission of Be the Match is to connect all these patients with a suitable donor and get them the treatment they need.
