When someone is elected to be an officer they are taking on a role as a leader in our program. Being a leader comes with many responsibilities, one of those responsibilities is to run a committee. Each officer oversees a different committee that corresponds to the position they were elected into. There are a total of 4 committees: President's Committee, Community Service Committee, Fundraising Committee, and Social Committee, each containing members from the Junior and Senior classes.
President's Committee
The President's Club is ran by our chapter's president, Frankie Nuss. The role of this committee is to create our chapter's bylaws.
Community Service Committee
The Community Service committee is ran by the Vice President of Community Service, Zoey Callander. The role of this committee is to organize community service opportunities for the members of our chapter.
One of the first community service projects that this committee was responsible for was sending some of our program's students to our local middle schools to teach them skills learned in our class. Each middle school has a class labeled, "Medical Detectives," in which 8th grade students learn all sorts of science and technical skills. These skills are similar to ones learned in our program, so as a result we have the opportunity of helping these students learn. During the year we send over a group of our Junior and Senior students to spend the period helping the 8th grade students streak plates, stain bacteria, identify organisms under a microscopes, and more! All the teachers, 8th graders, and our Bioscience students get enrichment from this experience. We hope that throughout the year that every student of will get the opportunity to have this teaching experience with the 8th graders.
Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising committee is ran by our Treasurer, Simona Hagos . The role of this committee is to create fundraising events to raise funds for our national service project and our program.
Social Committee
The Social committee is ran by the Vice President of Social Activities, Jaeda Whittaker. The role of this committee is to organize social mixers to strengthen the friendships and connections of members in our program.
