Q: What should I do if I get symptoms suggestive of COVID-19?
Symptoms of Coronavirus DIsease (COVID-19)
Don't contact your MS team, but rather use the NHS-111 website.
The symptoms of COVID-19 are very non-specific and generally mimic a common cold, flu or an upper respiratory tract infection. Atypical presentations include diarrhoea. The important symptoms to look out for are a high temperature and a new and continuous cough. According to the NHS this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual). A lot of people are over interpreting symptoms so if in doubt wait 12-24 hours before doing anything.
The NHS has made it clear that you must not leave home if you have symptoms of COVID-19 and advise self-isolation. If you need to self-isolate you must:
- not leave your home for any reason, other than to exercise once a day – but stay at least 2 metres (3 steps) away from other people
- not go out to buy food or collect medicine – order them by phone or online, or ask someone else to drop them off at your home
- not have visitors, such as friends and family, in your home
You can use your garden, if you have one.
The NHS website is the most appropriate resource for up-to-date advice about what to do if you think you may have COVID-19.
