Key Information    

This course focuses on an applied study of the graphic design sector and learners will gain a broad understanding and knowledge of working in the sector. Pupils will develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of graphic design.

Assessment

60% Non-exam assessment 

40% Examined assessment- written exam

Subject information

This qualification shows learners how to:

■      research ideas and use various sources

■      use a variety of tools, materials and techniques

■      explore a range of CAD, media and materials

■      build a portfolio of ideas

■      use their knowledge of the chosen graphic design elements to produce an item in response to a brief or scenario

■      work safely and securely when creating their graphic design item.

Learners will know about: responding to a brief.

They will develop skills:

■      in using different tools and equipment safely and competently

■      when experimenting with materials and techniques

■      in adapting their own ideas and responding to feedback

■      in evaluating their own work

■      in literacy, numeracy and ICT

■      that are essential for the modern workplace, such as team working; presentation skills; independent working; working to deadlines; efficient use of resources.

Is this course right for me?

This is a hands on course. An ability to draw accurately is very helpful, but there are other techniques used throughout the course.

A level of independence is required when developing ideas for your evidence portfolio.

What can this lead to?

This course can lead to further study of Graphic Design at A Level (or alternative level 3 qualification)

Careers that make use of graphic design include; product designer, creative director, package designer and advertising executive.
