Felix, Central High School's German intern, volunteered as an assistant coach during the 2022-2023 season. He was a downhill skier in Germany and had never cross-country skied until came to Minnesota, but easily made the transition.
TCGIS Nordic asks each family to contribute at least three hours of volunteer time per skier per season.

Volunteer opportunities range from a half an hour to two hours per shift, and many don't require knowing how to ski. Some are even indoors. Pick the shifts that work with your schedule, add your name and contact information to the list and choose your skier's last name from the drop-down list so that the skier's family gets credit for your volunteer time.
The Nordic ski program at TCGIS has accomplished a lot with very little, but we need additional help to continue offering fun and rewarding seasons of skiing, racing and personal growth for our middle school skiers. Compared with most other teams TCGIS offers, running a ski program with rental equipment, races and three practices a week requires more volunteers.
Many of you have contributed your time in past seasons by helping coach practice, timing races, photographing the team and pitching in as needed. All that help deserves ein großes Dankeschön! The volunteer requirement is intended to help spread the load and to encourage volunteer participation from all families.
Our biggest need is for assistant coaches at practice, whether you can commit to helping out on the same day(s) throughout the season or showing up as your schedule allows. Classic skiers of all levels (high school age and older) are welcome and appreciated. As an assistant coach you'll help set up for (and sometimes participate in) drills or games, wait behind for late-comers or ski with a group of skiers.
Another big need is for volunteers for the MyXC Team Sprints and any races we're hosting. In particular we need volunteers to set up the course, get skiers to the starting line on time, (starting line coordinators) time the races, hand out race bibs (for team sprints) and monitor the exchange zone (for team sprints).
If none of the above-mentioned are in your wheelhouse, don't worry. The team sincerely appreciates all volunteer contributions.
Do you see a need not listed on the volunteer sign-up? If you have time, a skill or a donation that will benefit the team, discuss with Coach Kirsten how you want to help.
No experience is required, except if the volunteer role requires you to know how to ski. (If you have beginner-level ski skills, you're qualified!) Most roles are very straightforward and we will provide directions.
Volunteers are not limited to parents of skiers. Friends or other family members, including older siblings, may volunteer to help. When they sign up to volunteer, have them choose your skier's last name from the drop-down list so that your family gets credit for the volunteer time.
No, but we appreciate your time and dedication to going above and beyond in supporting a successful school ski program!
