Levi Pennington (1875-1975) received his A.B. from Earlham College, a Masters from University of Oregon, and a DD from Linfield College. He was a high school teacher, reporter, pastor and, in 1911, became president of Pacific College (now George Fox University). At the same time, he was a pastor in one of the local Friends churches, traveled throughout the country speaking on peacemaking and prohibition, and actively raised money to support the college. In 1941, after thirty years as president, , he retired, although he remained actively involved in the college.
