Our Projects

The Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent

The track focused on Addressing Sexual Assault and Consent has developed an annual Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent open to schools outside of the immediate Washington, DC community. Invitations have also been extended to public schools, in hopes of continuing to further create dialogue within the community. The Summit is designed to be a mix of education and action. Each year, there are new community partners and workshops to help develop action plans. Many students who participate in the Addressing Sexual Assault and Consent track of the Policy Institute go on to help plan the Georgetown Day School Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent. You can view another Addressing Sexual Assault and Consent track's action project here.

The Gun Debate: Cycle of Violence Simulation

In 2021, the Gun Debate track has decided to build a website that will provide information about gun violence, reform, etc., and provide resources for those who are struggling with gun trauma. The Gun Debate track is challenged with collecting bipartisan research and partisan research from both extremes of the political spectrum. The 2021 Gun Debate track made a simulation called The Cycle Of Violence. To make this simulation, the track used real-world data and examples from speakers to inform their project.

Waging Life in the DMV: Affordable Housing + Living Wage Webpage

The group focused on Waging Life in the DMV has developed a webpage that serves as a database offering links and explanations on affordable housing and the living wage. This site provides information regarding employment opportunities, housing, food, transportation, medical care, child care, financial literacy, identification, and more. To construct this website, students partake in sessions with people who currently experience or have experienced homelessness or economic/job insecurity in the past. Newer, updated waging life action projects will be added as tracks complete their research.

Environmental Justice: Task Force @ GDS

The Environmental Justice group in years past, for their action projects, have created the Georgetown Day School Environmental Justice Week and further developed the Georgetown Day School Environmental Task Force. Due to the recent addition of this track, web pages or online resources have not yet been created. However, GDS students and past Environmental Justice fellows are encouraged to participate in Environmental Justice Week and even join the Environmental Task Force. Click here to learn more about the Environmental Task Force. The most recent action project by the 2021 Environmental Justice track of the Policy Institute was the creation of the Conservation CORPS and field trip for GDS 7th graders.

Life Resettled: Educational Platform

The Life Resettled track has created an educational platform with the hopes of bringing together a community in which refugees may connect with one another. Their mission statement brings together all aspects of their work: The Life Resettled group strives to develop a lasting program that provides access to cultural resources and creates connections for refugees, domestically and abroad. This program aims to empower refugees by giving them their own platform for conversation and education.
