It is no secret that the criminal justice system is fundamentally unjust and broken. The cause of the fractured system, however, is up for debate.
Is our criminal justice system too harsh? Too lenient? What programs are worth investing in or giving up altogether? Fellows in this track will not only deeply understand the flaws of the present system, but will envision pathways toward greater justice and equity for all Americans.
We will hear from innumerable voices whose lives intersect with our systems of criminal justice, law enforcement, and incarceration. These perspectives will allow us to engage with a debate that has become a live-wire in national politics. Throughout the summer, we will explore issues such as mass incarceration, racial disparities throughout the criminal justice system, and the school-to-prison pipeline. DC is at a potential turning point in reforming this system, we can engage to make change right here, right now.
