There are many socio-economic conditions that give rise to, and perpetuate, inequality. The status of being an immigrant (naturalized, visa-holding, or undocumented) can compound this inequality in many ways.
Questions of affordable housing, living wage, the implications of anti- immigrant bias, and barriers to the “American Dream” like language, credentials, and the challenges of displacement all shape the experience of immigrants resettling in the United States. Immigration policy has long been a contentious issue, as have policies regarding wages and work.
Through fieldwork and conversations with various communities and experts throughout the DMV, fellows will explore the intersecting challenges created by inequality, immigration, gentrification, homelessness, and the U.S. economy. And together, they will identify meaningful opportunities for advocacy and action.
