Bankhead's Curriculum Rationale
Bankhead's Curriculum Rationale
At Bankhead Primary School, our curriculum rationale is rooted in the belief that every child should have the opportunity to experience and education that allows them to both flourish now and long into the future. Inspired by the city's ethos of 'Let Glasgow Flourish', our aim is to nurture secure, respectful critical thinkers with lifelong aspirations.
Empowering Through Capabilities
Our Curriculum Rationale is underpinned by Nussbaum's 'Ten Central Capabilities', as a framework to support the flourishing of each individual child at Bankhead Primary. Our curriculum is categorised into 3 main elements: Foundational (Literacy and Numeracy); Core (Health & Wellbeing) and Horizon (RME, Social Studies, Science, Expressive Arts, Languages). We aim to provide a broad, balanced education that empowers pupils to navigate their environments in order to make connections and take part in immersive experiences that connect children with real-world skills and opportunities.
Community and Collaboration
Our rationale reflects a collective desire for academic excellence and connection with community. Through Interdisciplinary Learning and the Bankhead Community Action Project, we weave a deliberate thread of community throughout our school life. Together, we strive to ensure our children are prepared to contribute meaningfully to their local and global worlds.
