BCAP (Bankhead Community Action Project)
Inspired by the Rwandan concept of "Umuganda" (coming together), Bankhead Community Action Project fosters social cohesion and empowers students to become responsible citizens and effective contributors. The Bankhead Community Action Project (BCAP) is an experiential learning project that allows children to explore real-world challenges within their local community, allowing children to partake in immersive curricular expriences that also connect them with community. By focusing on categories such as the environment, school, organisations and enterprise and people and places, the project helps students understand their role in the world. It is deeply rooted in Nussbaum’s ten central capabilities, which aim to provide every child the freedom to develop and flourish.
BCAP uses an interdisciplinary approach, weaving wider curricular experiences and outcomes into practical, community-based contexts. Students use iPads and the Book Creator app to maintain a digital assessment portfolio, journaling their progress and the skills they develop throughout the year.
BCAP emphasises the development of meta-skills, such as social intelligence and innovation, to prepare children for the future workforce.
