The ADNU CEC, in partnership with LAKSA - Lunduyan ng mga Alagad ng Kultura at Sining sa Ateneo and Bicol Express Theater Company, successfully held the opening session of the ARTE Program last Friday, October 17, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The theater class, which covered the fundamentals of theater production, took place at the Madrigal Amphitheatre. The sessionโs speaker was Ms. Maria Rosalyn Balane-Valencia, a Court Interpreter at the Supreme Court of the Philippines (RTC-Naga City) and former USI faculty member with extensive experience in English, Mass Communication, and theater arts.
The event was spearheaded by Mr. Ian Emerson Abellano, ADNU SHS faculty member and CEC Head for Theater Arts. Dr. Elsie C. Albis, CEC chairperson, delivered the opening remarks. The theater class, attended by members of the ADNU Community, was also open to the public.
The CEC recognizes the transformative power of theater in shaping perspectives and cultivating creativity. This initiative promotes equitable access to quality education and strengthens partnerships for ustainable development. By opening the theater class to the public, the CEC reaffirms the Universityโs commitment to providing quality education that is both accessible and collaborative.

The Office of the Creative Endeavors Council, in partnership with the LAKSA - Lunduyan ng mga Alagad ng Kultura at Sining sa Ateneo and Bicol Express Theater Company, organizes the ARTE Program, a series of theater classes and workshops.
For the 2โฟแต part of the series, the ADNU CEC invited Direk Alcid Valencia, the award-winning Playwright-Artistic Director of Teatro de Sta. Luisa (USI-Naga) and Bicol Express Theater Company (BETCo), with extensive experience in theater education and production across the Bicol Region, to facilitate the workshop on on October 24, 2025, 3PM โ 6PM at the Alingal Function Room, Ateneo de Naga University.
He focused on developing the actorsโ tools: body, voice, and mind through various theater games and exercises. These included vocal exercises (wi-wo and the alphabet), mind games (3-6-9 and Quick Number), and creative movements or performances (Tao, Bahay, Bagyo and Ang Jeep ni Juan). The participants explored the four basic emotions: anger, sadness, happiness, and fear through the acting exercises.
The theater class was open to the public and was attended by members of the ADNU Community. Direk Alcid Valencia was co-facilitated by Ms. Rose Ann Sarto, a long-time theater practitioner and the administrative assistant at the ADNU Deanโs Office, College of Business and Accountancy.
