The Lesson and Instructional Continuity section provides a way for teachers to document the connection among the philosophy of education and learning targets with the planned units of study for the school year. Think of it is as a "grown up" scope and sequence.
An activity that proves worthwhile is taking time as a teacher to explore the correlation of the school philosophy of education and their grade level measurable objectives with their current instructional strategies and units of study.
Teachers could be given a list of the standards.
They should highlight the grade level standards when they come across them in their instructional strategies and units of study.
Teachers can identify the grade level standards that are skipped as gaps.
These gaps can be discussed as a faculty collaboratively. This provides a way to examine and design a cohesive, progression of learning for students.
Working through the above "Start with Why" is the "How" or process to create the what, or grade level learning targets for the subject area.
In this section, consider including the following:
documentation that shows the progression of learning: knowledge, understanding, skills
using a table or unit plans to evidence this progression provides a macro view of the learning that is planned for students over the course of their K-8 education
including the state/national standards in the documentation also evidences the faculty's attention to standardized benchmarks of learning
