Grade Level Measurable Objectives provide learning targets for each grade which everyone (teachers, students, and parents) are striving. These learning targets provide benchmarks that a proficient student demonstrates upon completion of a year's worth of learning in a specific grade.
An activity that proves worthwhile is taking time as a faculty to read and discuss all the state/national standards for a specific subject area. This type of activity provides:
knowledge of what the expectations are the year before the grade level and the year after the grade level
knowledge of what the K-8 progression of learning should ideally look like
opportunity to clarify understanding of the standards, creating common language and fostering similar attitudes among the faculty
COLLABORATION (small 4 classroom walls vs large 4 school building walls)
Standards Lens:
State and national standards documents can provide a starting point to determine what learning targets are reasonable to set as the "floor not the ceiling" for what students can be expected to
know, understand, and do by the end of a grade level.
Cross-curricular Lens:
When appropriate, connecting learning targets from different subject areas can simplify and streamline the amount of learning targets per grade level.
Scriptural Integration Lens:
When appropriate, spiritual learning targets may be included to introduce this section or sections if learning targets are sorted by domain. Other areas that the scriptural integration may be included is in the Philosophy of Education section or the Grade Level Measurable Objectives section.
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what literate students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what artistic students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what musical students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what mathematically literate students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what physically fit students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
This discipline will be updated once the synod is complete with its Religion Curriculum development.
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what scientifically literate students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what Christian, civic-minded students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what digitally literate students should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
What are the essential learning targets for each grade level? Consider what world language learners should be able to know, understand, and do by the end of the grade level. Remember, standards are the "floor not the ceiling".
Working through the above "Start with Why" is the "How" or process to create the what, or grade level learning targets for the subject area.
In the this section, consider including the following:
grade level (or grade band) standards from the state/national standards
crafting the curriculum document by either grade level sections or progressions (tables) of learning with multiple grade levels in a grade band
introducing each domain with spiritual goals to demonstrate a desire to train students to be responsible, Christian citizens and contributors to this world as they are Christian witnesses in this world and also await their citizenship in God's kingdom
